Welcome to Leisure Ministries! We are here to provide you with opportunities to try new activities, to meet new people, to form bonds of friendship within the Trinity membership, to include our community in our activities, and to have fun and recreation.  Leisure activities are for ALL ages and ALL stages of life!

Below is a quick slideshow of programs and events we have held in the past.  We welcome your ideas and suggestions for future programs, events, and trips.  Below the slideshow is a list of what is coming up in the days ahead.  Hope to see you here!






Do you have plans to expand your horizons this year?  Maybe meet some new people, start some new hobbies, or practice better health?  Check out the following programs and plan to join us!!


Baby Brigade - Looking to meet other young parents who are home with their little ones?  Want to grab some exercise with another parent pushing a stroller?  Trinity UMC wants to help you make these connections and build bonds between our young families in Spartanburg. Call Patti Hall (585-4884, ext. 14) or email her for all the details!

Beginner Sewing Classes  - Now is the time to learn to sew! We will be meeting on the first and third Sunday afternoons from 4:00-6:00 PM, beginning in March 2017. Call 585-4884, ext. 14 and leave your contact information to be put on the list for our new class.  Class size is limited to 10.

Sewing Community -  If you have some sewing skills and want to be surrounded by fellow enthusiasts, come join us! We will meet on the 2nd and 4th Sunday afternoons, from 4:00 - 6:00 PM.  Bring your own machine, supplies, and project.

Knitting - A knitting group is now meeting on Tuesdays from 1:00 - 4:00 PM in the library.  Everyone, regardless of skill level, is welcome to attend.  This is open knitting (bring your own project) or come if you want to learn how to knit.  Another group meets once a month on Thursdays to knit prayer shawls.

Walk in the Gym - Our Christian Life Center gym is open for walking Monday through Thursday, 9:00 AM until 4:30 PM. This is a great location to walk safely without regard to weather conditions (hot or cold).  Ask a friend to join you!  (If coming in the late afternoon or on a school holiday or during the summer, please be aware that our Children's Center may be using the gym.  Call ahead to be sure the gym is available).

Yoga  - Our Yoga classes are held on Monday nights beginning at 5:45 PM - 6:45 PM.  Taught by Joy Jakubchak, this "joyful yoga" is very relaxing and perfect for any level student, including beginners.  Cost is $7.00 per class.  Bring your yoga mat and a beach towel.  Contact Patti Hall (585-4884, ext. 14) for more information.

Zumba - Leah Patterson leads Zumba everyTuesday morning at 11:00 AM in the Christian Life Center gymnasium.  Classes are $5.00 each. Wear comfortable clothing, bring a water bottle and towel.  If you would like a night class, please contact Patti Hall at 585-4884, ext.14.  

Needlework Kneelers Stitching Group  - A group of volunteers meets  every Wednesday at 4:00 PM in the library to stitch on the needlework kneelers. We welcome newcomers anytime and will teach you what you need to know. Come join in!

TUMS (Trinity United Methodist Seniors)  meets every fourth Tuesday through September -May.  We enjoy a delicious lunch ($7.00 each catered by II Samuels Restaurant), followed by an activiy or speaker.  Everyone is invited ~ please call the church office by Monday noon the day before the event to register for the meal.  You are welcome to come hear the speaker without eating.

Book Exchange - a bookshelf has been set up in the hallway outside of the sanctuary (between 4th and 3rd floors) where you can Take a Book, Leave a Book.  We encourage everyone to share with this project!

Check out the Take a Book, Leave a Book bookcase before you leave for vacation! We have some great beach reads, mysteries, thrillers, and current best sellers!

Saturday, June 3 - We are going on a fun road trip to Greenwood for the SC Festival of Flowers 50th year celebration which features many activities such as the 44 whimsical horticulture topiaries placed downtown, a Juried Arts and Crafts Show, an Art Exhibit, a Photography Exhibit, a guided tour of the Railroad Historical Center, Music at the Farmer's Market, and Home Garden Tours. We will leave at 8:00 AM and travel by bus.  There is still room for you, so contact me as soon as possible!

Saturday, June 10 -  Our wonderful yoga teacher, Joy Jakubchek, will hold a Yoga Retreat in the Fellowship Hall which will include a yoga class, a light lunch, and an educational workshop where you will create your own unique vision board. Yoga is for all levels, even beginners, and you do not have to have artistic abilitiy to participate. Fee is $25 and you must pre-register by calling us no later than June 5.

You have been asking for another big trip - are you interested in going to Epworth By the Sea in September? Their Autumn Adventures, held September 18-21 focuses on Island Hopping - Salepo, Amelia, and Cumberland to be exact. Space is limited so we need your reservations NOW. The information is in the office so pick up your leaflet today and let me know by June 1 if you are able to go and I will give you more details.

Thursday, July 13 - Let's go to lunch at the Lavendar Bistro in downtown Tryon.  It looks like a great place to eat and will make a fun outing.  We will leave the church at 11:15 AM and travel together to Tryon to enjoy our meal dutch-treat.  Call today to let us know you are joining us!

Sunday, July 16 -  More details coming up, but let's have a Homemade Ice Cream Social!!! Right now, I need to know if you can bring a churn of your favorite homemade ice cream.  There may be fun games and prizes, too!  Call Patti today to volunteer.

Saturday, July 29 - Want to go on a whitewater rafting adventure?  We are planning one right now but need your input. If you are interested in joining us, please contact Patti with your name,  age, length of time of trip (all day or half day) , and intensity desired (there are 120 different combinations for trips!) as soon as possible.  There are group rates available depending on how many people sign up. It is likely to cost approximately $50 each with additional costs for transportation and meals.

4) Complete a green event card and put it in the collection plate during Worship Service.
