Children at Pine Street Elementary are given the choice to walk the 1/2 mile back to Trinity with a teacher or to ride the bus. Children leave their bookbags on the bus. The children that choose to participate enjoy having a little fresh air and exercise as they socialize with friends before homework time. At the end of the year there is a party for everyone that walks at least 5 miles and there are prizes for children that walk even further. Many children will have walked between 30 and 60 miles by the end of the school year.
Homework
Homework is an important aspect of Trinity's After School Care program. Children are divided into to small homework groups Monday-Thursday. Children are given between 20 minutes to an hour to complete their homework depending on their age group. Group leaders will help explain directions, answer questions and check homework. Children are expected to have their homework checked and then they can play quietly until homework time is finished. All children are allowed to go play when the allotted homework time is over.
TCC's Running Club
Trinity Children's Center's weekly running club is open to children in K-5 through 5th grade. In order to be a member children must commit to do their best, dress appropriately and they must support the other runners. The club rotates between running in Converse Heights, the Cottonwood Trail, the Rail Trail and playing running games.
